there certainly calling us, talking to us. the environment you describe, where this is a unique holiday season in washington -- five times in modern history have we been into session this late in the year. some of these discussions tend to be a little academic. we think, who is in the power structure, who looks good, who is looking good in this but in the real-- world -- my barber is worried, should i hunker down, is this as good as it is ever going to be? people are concerned about the unknown here. the ultimate people that matter here are the american people, the small-business owner, the single word about whether a child will love the opportunity to go to college -- mom worried about whether her child will have the opportunity to go tco college. this reminds me of the yankee's technology questions. -- y2k technology question. we can only hope that a settlement happens here over the course of the next few days. if that does not happen, let's hope you're able to get it turned around early next year. >> are you preparing for p

most of us will setting. as the winds become more south and southwest, we'll get more of the moisture moving on through and the cloud cover will become more widespread. the forecast though for the long-term is going to look pretty good for us. our weather concerns aren't preparing you for the cold. step out prepared a hat a scarf gloves, a good coat. through the afternoon, more cloud cover comes through. i'm not expecting any moisture to fall. celebrations are going to look pretty good headed in toward the late afternoon and evening and even the early morning hours aren't so bad. i would say early new year's day, around about dawn, we could see a little bit of a wintry mix. mainly light snow showers north and west. overall a little bit of rain popping through. satellite and radar looking good. it has been quiet again all the moisture staying away from us at the present time. in the lower 20s up toward the panhandle of west virginia and maryland. the futurecast is staying calm and not painting a very brisk pic

give us a call this morning. you can also catch up with us on all of your favorite social media websites. a very good morning to you. i want to begin with the question of compromise or sticking to principle. this is a question a gallup organization asked in a recent poll. it found 62% of americans would like to see the federal government leaders compromise on an agreement to avoid the fiscal cliff budget measures set to go into effect next month. more than twice the 25% who want leaders to stick to their principles. a majority of all party groups favor compromise. here is the breakdown from the gallup organization. 71% of democrats say they want a compromise bursa's 21% who say the party should stick to their principles. among republicans 55% one compromise. 35% say stick to your principles. the gallup poll also found americans are more optimistic and pessimistic that an agreement will be reached before the deadline. 58% say it is a very or somewhat likely leaders will find a solution. 39% say it is not likely. d

where the heaviest rain is up to the north of us. north of ukiah, along the north coast, crescent city, eureka, and this where is the leading edge of the cold front is right here. all of the moisture slides south so definitely increasing rain and wind overnight, heavy rain and wind expected tomorrow morning, and high winds and flooding is likely, especially low-lying areas and the higher elevations. here's a look at the wind speeds right now. gusts at 20 in novato. check out sfo, gusts to 31. winds picking up ahead to the cold front. half moon bay, 20 miles-per-hour gusts out the livermore valley. 21, san jose, 24 in heyward. so things are starting to change a bit. not a lot of wind out there earlier this evening but now as the front starts to make slow progress the south, the winds are picking up. in fact wind advisory until noon. the south winds, 20-30 miles-per-hour with gusts possibly as high as 60 miles-per-hour, and with the saturated ground we could have more downed trees, and that could cause down ud powerlines as well. this
